Point of sale
A till that keeps the books while you serve the queue.
gitobiz runs in the browser on the computer or tablet at your counter. Each sale takes the goods off the shelf, puts the money in the drawer or wallet it went into, and files the VAT in the month it belongs to — before the next customer steps up.
What it does
- Scan or search
- Scan a manufacturer barcode, a carton code that sells 24 units at once, or your own SKU. A UPC and an EAN reading of the same can find the same product.
- Weighed and measured goods
- Sell 1.25 kg of rice or 2.5 m of cable. Price or weight labels printed by a shop scale are read straight off the barcode.
- Split payments
- Part cash, part mobile money in one sale. Each part lands in its own account, and the change is worked out for the cash.
- Till shifts and cash-up
- Open a till with a float and close it with a count. The cashier declares the drawer before seeing what was expected, so the count is an honest one.
- Discounts need a supervisor
- A cashier cannot sell below the list price without a supervisor’s till PIN. Cap how far any sale can be marked down, and require a reason if you like.
- Receipts that prove themselves
- Print on 80 mm or 58 mm thermal paper. Each receipt carries a QR code that opens its record, so a doctored copy shows itself.
- Returns and voids
- Take back part of a sale and the goods return to the shelf at the cost they left at. Voids and returns need permission, and both are in the audit log.
- No overselling
- Two tills cannot sell the last item twice. The second sale is told how many are actually left.
Made for Uganda
Built around how business is done here.
- Your MTN MoMoPay or Airtel merchant code shown at the till, large enough for the customer to dial
- The transaction ID from the payment SMS recorded with the sale — and an ID that has already paid for something cannot pay again
- Prices in Ugandan shillings, with standard-rated, zero-rated and exempt goods kept apart for the URA VAT return
Do we need special hardware?
No. Any computer, tablet or phone with a web browser runs the till. A barcode scanner that types into the screen works as it is, and receipts print to any thermal printer your browser can print to.
Does the till work without internet?
No. gitobiz is a web app and the till needs a connection while it sells. There is no offline mode yet.
Can several cashiers sell at the same time?
Yes. Each till is its own cash account and each cashier has their own shift. Stock is shared safely between them, so two tills can never sell the same last item.
Can staff use the till without seeing our profits?
Yes. The built-in Staff role can sell, take payments and run a shift without seeing margins, costs or bank balances.
